Malaysian Taekwondo Girls Win Gold in Poomsae SEA Games 2019 Highlights (2026)

Taekwondo Triumphs: Malaysian Girls Bring Home the Gold

BANGKOK: Yow Mei Yee, Seah Jing Ying, and Wong Zin made their mark at the SEA Games, dazzling the audience with their poomsae prowess. The trio's performance in the women's recognized poomsae team event at Fashion Island Mall on Wednesday (Dec 10) secured a well-deserved gold medal for Malaysia.

With a score of 8.560, the team narrowly beat out Thailand, who scored 8.450, in a thrilling final. This victory marked the second gold for the Malaysian contingent, adding to the earlier triumph in men's hockey 5s.

However, the day's events weren't without controversy. Poomsae exponents Nur Humaira Abdul Karim and Jason Loo narrowly missed out on a gold medal after a controversial decision in the quarter-finals of the mixed pair event. Their elimination left a bitter taste, but the team's resilience shone through.

In the semi-finals, Mei Yee and her teammates demonstrated their skill, defeating Timor Leste. The hosts, meanwhile, showcased their strength by overcoming Vietnam. This set the stage for a successful poomsae competition, culminating in one gold and two bronze medals for Malaysia.

The men's recognized poomsae team event saw Chin Ken Haw, Randy Owen Augustine, and Jason Loo claim the bronze medal. Ken Haw also earned a bronze in the men's individual freestyle event, further highlighting Malaysia's prowess in the sport.

This victory is a testament to the team's dedication and skill, and it's a triumph that will be celebrated by the entire nation.
