Walmart is giving shoppers a crucial gift this holiday season: more time. The retailer has announced a substantial extension of its delivery hours, enabling last-minute purchases well into Christmas Eve.
December typically brings hectic to-do lists for families as the holidays approach. In response, Walmart is extending its schedules to help simplify the shopping experience.
Walmart Express Delivery shines as the season’s star service, with usage rising about 2.5 times in December compared to the yearly average.
David Guggina, Walmart U.S. senior vice president of innovation and automation, stressed the value of speed: “More people are turning to Express Delivery to get items faster, and December is when this service truly stands out.”
The main update is that customers can place Express Delivery orders from the store through 5:00 p.m. local time on Christmas Eve, one hour later than last year’s deadline, with a promise of delivery in just one hour.
What are Walmart’s Christmas deadlines?
To ensure gifts and holiday ingredients arrive in time for celebrations, Walmart has established nationwide cutoff times:
- Express Delivery (Delivery in 1 hour): 5:00 p.m. local time through December 24
- Same-day pickup and delivery: 12:00 p.m. local time through December 24
- Standard shipping: 12:30 p.m. local time through December 23
Walmart’s new “Get it Now” feature
To further streamline shopping, Walmart has introduced a new feature called “Get it Now” in its app. This option eliminates guesswork by showing shoppers the estimated arrival time in minutes, allowing a one-tap purchase decision.
